A greener and healthier Scotland

20 May 2009

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Nicola Sturgeon, has named PARC Craigmillar as one of 11 low-carbon communities of the future in Scotland.

PARC, the company spearheading the regeneration of Craigmillar, is the only project in Edinburgh to be selected to further the objectives of the Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative (SSCI). The SSCI encourages inspirational developments which will serve as exemplars of the highest quality.

John Quinn, general manager at PARC, said: “This is an excellent endorsement of the quality of the regeneration project in Craigmillar. We are committed to creating a sustainable community for the future, employing innovative design and technology solutions, and are working closely with local people in Craigmillar to achieve this.”

Councillor Gordon Mackenzie, Chair of PARC added: "We are committed to building strong, safe, sustainable communities in Edinburgh. PARC is creating one such community and thanks to this support, plans to make the area even more sustainable will be realised. It's an exciting time for the area and we look forward to working with the Government to build a community of the future."

The projects were revealed at the opening of an exhibition in The Lighthouse, Glasgow, hosted jointly by the Scottish Government and SUST: Sustainability in Architecture on Wednesday 20 May.
