PARC opens up new business opportunities for Edinburgh

1 March 2007

PARC, the organisation driving the regeneration of Craigmillar, will create space for around 50 new jobs for the area following the purchase of industrial land in Prestonfield Park, adjacent to Peffermill Industrial Estate.

PARC will develop 13 separate new business units at the Park – ranging in size from 100 sq metres to 140 sq metres - geared for small or start-up businesses. They will be based across a 1.2 acre site in Prestonfield Park next to Peffermill Industrial Estate in Craigmillar.

Prestonfield Park is a joint venture between the Walker Group Scotland Ltd and John Smart & Co. (Contractors) PLC, and this development further reflects the commitment shown by both companies to providing speculative industrial development in the wide Craigmillar area.

Councillor Ian Perry, Chair of PARC

Councillor Ian Perry, Chair of PARC, welcomed the jobs announcement. He said: "This is a good deal for PARC.  The land around Peffermill Industrial Estate represents one of only a handful of available industrial development opportunities in Edinburgh.

“The current enquiry rate for industrial accommodation at the industrial estate is the highest experienced for a number of years and we have already received strong interest from potential occupiers.

“Business opportunities like this will attract new start-up companies to the area and will be a significant boost to creating employment opportunities for the wider area - and indeed the city as a whole.

“This will further underpin PARC's development in Craigmillar and we are seeing significant progress so far this year with major works starting on new homes and new schools."

Neil Scott, Manager of Cre8te who will be leasing the units said: “It’s great to see opportunities for new businesses in the area. Prestonfield Park and Peffermill Industrial Estate are in an ideal location as its only 10 minutes from the new Scottish Parliament, 15 minutes from the City Centre and 5 minutes from the City By-Pass.”

Planning permission for the business units was received in December 2006 and work will start on-site in summer 2007, with the units available for occupation by early 2008. Units will be available to lease, on flexible terms.

Prestonfield Park is located adjacent to Peffermill Industrial Estate and is sandwiched between Duddingston Road West and Peffermill Road to the South East of the City Centre.
